Medusa, Look At the Mirror (I afraid it isn't a good translation for the
title) is my third or fourth Yumehito Inoue's novel, as usual Mr. Inoue went out of his way to mind fuck his readers like no tomorrow but this time, I'm not thrilled. The writing is fine enough and the mystery beyond the 'suicide' of a novelist is interesting enough, but the final plot twist about the narrator (view spoiler)[ not being the young woman's boyfriend like we previously believe, but the young woman's aged and ba
The writing is fine enough and the mystery beyond the 'suicide' of a novelist is interesting enough, but the final plot twist about the narrator (view spoiler)[ not being the young woman's boyfriend like we previously believe, but the young woman's aged and battered father/the novelist himself (hide spoiler)] is.........odd, so I don't care for this ending, to say the least.

In literature, the term “Gothic” is a notoriously slippery designation. Ask a dozen English professors what it means, and you’ll get a dozen...
